Traffic and presence analytics in an industrial environment
Efficient management of large teams of workers across extensive industrial sites is a serious organizational challenge. Traditional methods — paper attendance lists, phone check-ins, manual records — do not provide a complete picture of what is actually happening on-site. There is a lack of data on where individual people are at any given moment, how the flow of people is distributed between zones, and what the actual intensity of work looks like in different parts of the facility.
The Traffic Analytics module in the InnerWeb® system was designed to answer these questions continuously and automatically — without engaging additional resources on the supervisory side.
How does it work?
The InnerWeb system uses an infrastructure of Industrial BLE Radio Beacons (iBeacon), deployed across the facility grounds, combined with a mobile application on workers' smartphones. Signals from the transmitters allow the location of each person to be determined with an accuracy of a few meters, while simultaneously recording data on the time spent in individual zones.
This data is automatically aggregated and presented in the system's analytical panel, providing insight into:
- Personnel flows between zones — who, when, and how long they stayed in a given location.
- Real-time presence — a current view of worker distribution on the virtual facility map.
- Zone visit history — hourly, daily, and periodic reports broken down by companies, crews, or positions.
- Bottleneck identification — areas with excessive traffic or overly long dwell times.
- Presence verification during evacuation — an immediate answer to the question "who is still on the facility grounds".
Practical applications
Traffic analytics finds application in many areas of industrial facility management:
- OHS and safety — monitoring whether workers are in zones consistent with their authorizations and assigned tasks. Signaling unauthorized entry into hazardous zones.
- Maintenance — analysis of service crew dwell time at individual locations, optimization of inspection and repair schedules.
- Internal logistics — tracking the flow of suppliers, drivers, and vehicles on the facility grounds, optimization of routes and waiting times.
- Subcontractor management — verification of whether external companies are performing work in designated zones and within the agreed timeframe.
- Audit and reporting — automatic generation of attendance reports for inspections, audits, and post-incident analyses.
Integration with the InnerWeb ecosystem
Traffic analytics does not operate in isolation — it is part of the coherent InnerWeb process ecosystem, which includes:
- Live Permits — linking worker locations with active work permits, automatic compliance verification.
- Immobility Detection — signaling a lack of movement of a lone worker, which may indicate an accident event.
- Reporting System — linking locations with the place of a fault or hazard report.
- Virtual 3D Map — presentation of analytical data on a three-dimensional scan of the facility made using LiDAR technology.
Thanks to such integration, the organization gains a unified "situational awareness" — a view of what is happening on-site at any given moment, supporting operational decisions and prevention.
Data security
All location and presence data is processed in accordance with GDPR requirements and protected by mechanisms described in InnerWeb's security policy. Data access is restricted to authorized roles, and retention is configured individually for each deployment.
Summary
Traffic analytics in the InnerWeb® system is a tool that transforms raw location data into actionable operational knowledge. Instead of guessing where workers are and how traffic is distributed across the facility, management receives objective, up-to-date data — ready for analysis, reporting, and decision-making.
