PRE-FIRE PROTECTION - CASE STUDY

CHALLENGE

Fire – how to protect yourself from it?

As statistics show, most fires are caused by human error. In some industries, such as the chemical, petroleum and paper industries, the risk of fire is much higher than in others due to the technologies used and the use of flammable substances and materials. A fire at such a site can have serious consequences, affecting the health and lives of those on and near the site, as well as significant, dangerous environmental consequences. Sometimes all it takes is a moment’s inattention, leaving the facility unchecked or another employee error for a fire to occur.

The risk of fire exists in any place, in any workplace, regardless of the type of activity carried out there, but especially such a risk exists in facilities where fire-hazardous work is carried out. They require constant supervision throughout their duration, but in particular it is the high-risk establishments covered by the SEVESO III directive that are obliged to use solutions and systems that, among other things, reduce the risk of fire.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM FIRE? SOLUTION FROM INNERWEB

The solution is fire protection. An innovative system that reacts even before a fire occurs. InnerWeb’s functionality complies with the requirements of the SEVESO III directive, bringing a number of safety-enhancing benefits.

To test this functionality of the InnerWeb system, we conducted a test in cooperation with the Bielsko-Biała University of Technology and Humanities. We deployed a network of iBeacons at one of the university’s departments. Participants were given smartphones with the InnerWeb application.

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

If employees move away from the fire zone, leaving the station unattended, a PRE-fire alarm will be triggered. Possible notification methods include push notifications or email. The system protects against the occurrence of a fire, which distinguishes it from fire alarm systems that respond when a fire has already occurred. The configuration of this alarm system, including setting up the users responsible for a specific element, is handled by the administrator.

InnerWeb is a supervisor to ensure that those in charge of the fire scene conduct surveillance at all times.

The InnerWeb system, along with its alarming function, is an excellent solution not only for fire protection. An example is work in an excavation, which requires the cooperation of 2 people at the bottom, 2 people at the top with belay ropes and the presence of an oxygen sensor. If one of the workers leaves the work site, the system activates, setting off the alarm.

UNITARY PATENT IN THE EU AND THE USA

InnerWeb has received a unified patent for a method and system for monitoring workflows and a PRE-fire system in 21 European Union countries and the United States.

OPINION OF THE BIELSKO-BIALSKI UNIVERSITY:

“The system makes it possible to reduce the most common causes of fires in an industrial plant. (…) The reconnaissance carried out by a team of employees from the University of Technology and Humanities shows that this is the world’s first PRE-fire system designed in this way, based on presence control using the iBeacon network.”
